Ms. Purdie’s version is made with Hawaiian Sun Noodles, her favorite brand, and topped with chopped greens and shredded,pogo88 smoked turkey meat, all delicately placed into the bowl with the precision of a surgeon. It also includes a soy-marinated halved egg, with the soft, bright-yellow yolk adding richness to the broth.

But the move backfired in a way that few supporters expected. Californians in 2021 actually tossed nearly 50 percent more plastic bags, by weight, than when the law first passed in 2014, according to data from CalRecycle, California’s recycling agency.
