Actor John Lithgow is reportedly in talks to play Professor Albus Dumbledore in HBO‘s Harry Potter series, reported Deadline.

However, HBO in a statement said, “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation,” and added, “As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”

Dumbledore is the headmaster of the Hogwarts and the leader of the Order of the Phoenix whose goal is to fight the Dark wizard Lord Voldemort.

In the Harry Potter franchise, the role of Dumbledore was played by the late Richard Harris and Michael Gambon.

Francesca Gardiner is the writer/showrunner of the Harry Potter series, and Mark Mylod is the director and executive producer. Casey Bloys,pogo88 Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, earlier called the show a “faithful adaptation” of J.K. Rowling’s novels which will “dive deep into each of the iconic books.”
